Well here we are or at least just me as
I know no one else is reading this just yet. But we have to start somewhere.
Ok so I am new to this blogging thing and it will take me some time to learn but untill then lets have fun. I am restarting my low carb diet and thought I would take this idea I had last year and put it to good use. I have been on and off low carb for years now. Mainly off as cost of food is high when you don't have much to spend. Both with shipping some items and produce it has been hell, but with some costs now available with out online buying the cost has gone down for me at least.
I know that the cost of food is going up this year but so is everything else. I live in Vancouver, BC and everything has a price on it. I mean bus fare just went up again. Tho groceries will be slightly cheaper next month since pennies won't be in our vocabulary ever again. They (the companies) will be rounding up or down to the nearist nickle, but be warned if you use any form of plastic either debit or credit it will be the cost down to the penny!
But anyway as you will find out I like to babble it is one of my short commings but usually I have random tid-bits that are worth a listen.
So low carbing is obviously cutting your carbs but how many people do it properly, next to non. Years ago low carb diets hit a craze yet again after the 70's. Everything was low carb we had stores bakeries and product lining our shelves. Now alot of the products produced were fantastic, but for every one that was good was like 5 that wern't.
People started getting sick and the government stepped in. Now here is where I hit you with facts and some consperacy. PEOPLE ARE STUPID! There I said it. They are stupid. If you read Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution the original not New Diet Revolution it is basic. Lower your carbs to 20 grams a day for your first week OR two. Not kill all carbs to zero and keep it there for weeks. God I am sooo mad at people. Carbs are food and fuel. We need them. Just like Calories what goes in also goes out. But in very different ways. With Calorie diets you put in and you have to exert sometimes 2-3 times as much in excersize just to burn the calories. But with Carbs your body already starts breaking it down to basic needs, fuel as energy and waste as in pee or poo (lol I had to). You can quite litterally sit on your butt all day and shrink where low Cal you have to get up.
Now you don't have to say it I know excersize is important and I agree but half an hour a day is all that is required to keep in shape or maintain. I am by no means an athlete but I do like to excersize. I belly dance, walk, hike, swim and soon to add skate. I also babysit my friends daughter and that in it's self is excersize. Like they say take the stairs instead of the elevator. Now I am getting off track again.
So people are getting sick in fact one person died! Well the government stepped in and said low carb was making all these people sick and tons of people were dieing. They then passed a ban here in BC on selling low carb. They did back off and alow it but the damage was done. Stores closed and people ran away from low carb. The problem here is the one person who died and they didn't say this is that she had gone on zero carbs for weeks and in fact lowered any food intake to almost nothing. Now this isn't the diet this was a sick person who needed help. This is called Anorexia and is a serious desease of the mind. The government waged war with campanes about how high protien will make you sick they did studdies that show you that it won't cause weight loss or if it did it would be minimal. I have seen and read these so called studdies. One there is no control groups and two the studdies were not done to the t' on how low carb should be followed. And here's the kicker they want you to be healthy but they push chocolates, candies, pops and whatever else is 'unhealthy' as healthy because you can have them on a low Calorie diet. Well to me that is keeping people of the worldin the dark about eathing healthy. I am not talking smoothies but just good food. If you cooked it from scratch it is quite alot healthier than what you get at the stores. You know what's in it! But they still trick you into thinking your doing a good thing.
Now I can go on and on but I think I will save some for you later. But please if you can go to the library or ask a friend to read the original Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution. I want anyone who is going to even try low carb to know where it started. It isn't pounds of bacon or lard and tons of fats. It is a balanced diet but with meat and veg as your main. Any carbs will come from your veg or sauces.
I have low carbbed for years on and off like I have had many excuses like all of you. But my main reason has always been money. It is cheaper to buy a jar of pasta sauce and a bag of noodles at the dollar stores then buying veg or meat at the grocery store. But with bills now catching up and having a couple more dollars in the pocket I am starting agian. My weight has come from many areas of life issues not just sitting around doing nothing. I had a hard childhood with a Grandmother who tried to use me as a tool of mass distruction within my family. It was so bad that my teachers were on high alert and to bring me inside if they saw her. She would force me to eat large adult portions not child size and she caused enough stress for me that I was trading anything I could to get food at school and I would hide it under my bed. After we moved that stopped but the large portions were hard to stop because I was still stressed with bulling at school which hadn't happened before until I started a new school. Buy about grade 12 that finally started to change as my mother introduced me to low carb. I lost a ton of weight but the stresses of extra classes and extra-curicular put some of that weight on again. But not too much. I then went to Culinary school and put on more. Not from eating as my classmates were more concerned I was turning anorexic because I wouldn't eat but my body did something else it absorbed it through the air. I know it sounds weird but it does happen. I ate b-l-d but just cooking seemed to be passed through the skin.
I finished school just to be faced with having to almost sue the school and my mother being sick and the land loards being dicks and my father not handling the stress I had to take care of everything. This left me drained emotionally, fisically and mentally. The house was strapped for cash I wasn't working and we had to go the cheapist way. Then I was able to lose the weight. I was working and things were going well. I got back onto my diet and got to the smallest I had been in years. I was about a size 16 and weighed just about 250lbs. I hadn't been there for a very long time. But I suddenly became sick with Cluster headaches and the medication they had put me on put 60 lbs on me in 2 weeks. It wasn't water weight either. Then stress of not knowing what days I could work and when I couldn't work I was left bed ridden. This did nothing for the waist line. I am now on a medication that alows me some time to do things but I still have bad days.
So my meds are good I am starting to balnce life lets see if we can do something... nope, life kicks me in the ass again and my headaches get worse or the meds arn't working as well anymore. Can't tell which. Then I go get my toncils out. Disaster. The equipment explodes in my mouth leaving me scared on the inner cheek and my lip. I then have a sesure and a headaches attack and a coughing fit coming out. I couldn't do anything. By the evening I had bronchitis and a throat infection set in I went from talking to not talking and they sent me home I came back severly dehidrated and in need of antibiotics. The only way to fix it was to put me on IV. Well the antibiotics they put me on gave me the worst side effect of dhiarria for 6 months. Then it slowly nomalized but going back to a regular eating habit was out of the question. I had re-developped cronic dhiarria. I slowly removed foods and added them back in. Just this year I finally found out that since my antibiotics I have developed an allergy to lettuce. So now I have to figure out how to low carb with out salad. Well here we go I will try to figure it out with you at my side.
